WELCOME TO DEERWOOD MEN'S CLUB

First meeting for the 2026 Board was held at 1818 on Saturday Oct. 18, 2025.
Meeting was called to order at 1:37 PM
Members present: Tom Gipp, Dave Walos, Paul Riexinger, Keith Miranto, Bob Krolczyk, Eric Maundrell, Dan Teal, Darren Vitberg, Mike Martin and Frank Queeno.
Election of officers for 2026 results:
President: Tom Gipp
Vice President: Eric Maundrell
Secretary: Keith Miranto
Treasurer: Frank Queeno
Committees will be headed by:
Tournament Chairman: Paul Riexinger
Handicap Chairman: Dave Walos
Rules & Greens: Bob Krolczyk
Website: Darren Vitberg
Prize Chairman:
Entertainment: Mike Martin
50/50 Chairman: Eric Maundrell
Bullet Points:
- Paul Riexinger will have the tentative 2026 Tournament schedule by our next meeting.
- Dates to note:
- Spring Social will be Saturday April 25, 2026.
- Club Championship will be August 1-2 with the Summer Picnic on August 2nd, 2026.
- Final Tournament (2-man scramble) will be on September 19, 2026 to be followed the same day with our Year end banquet.
Treasurer Frank Queeno reported that the treasury was around $3500 at this time. We will use the same handicap system at a cost of around $295 this coming year and Dave Walos will renew that with the vendor.
Much discussion concerning the possible elimination of the "C" Class was voted down by board vote after Chairman Paul Riexinger brought the issue to vote. More discussion may be forthcoming after Mr. Walos and Mr. Riexinger determines the make-up of the new membership in the spring.
Also discussed ad nauseum was the incorrect score cards based on the tee boxes used (mostly for the senior tees). We seem to be at the mercy of course management on that front and will not get any opportunity to have the course re-rated until such time as either the club or the city rejoins the Buffalo District Golf Association. Until then we are no more than a modified league which seems satisfactory to the majority of our group.
Keith Miranto will prepare the 2026 membership application (Same $120 membership fee) and send to the existing members sometime soon and share with Darren Vitberg to put on the website. Mr. Miranto also presented a check to the club for $350 as proceeds from the 25 man Bills games fundraiser. Mr. Miranto will also present a $50 Super Bowl pool fundraiser coming in a few weeks. Proceeds from the fundraisers will be used to fund a memorial bench to be placed on the course in honor of our deceased members. A 50/50 split will also be coming in 2026 (same as 2025). The Hole-in-One club will be run by Bob Krolczyk. There are 53 members in that club and those not in will have an opportunity to join ($5) in the spring. The Hole-in-One pool runs from the start of Tournament Week 1 to the end of our tournament season on Sept. 19th.
Thanks to Emma & Ray for the fantastic hospitality at 1818 Bar & Grill all year!
Meeting was adjourned at 3:15 PM
Next meeting TBD
Respectfully submitted,

2 man scramble/Year End Banquet
was a blast !
Just like that our Tournament season came to a close on a beautiful September day at Deerwood. 72 men (19 Yellow tee Senior teams-17 White tee Open teams) participated in our first ever 2-man scramble/banquet day.
The results are below as 1st and 2nd place prizes were awarded in both divisions. There were also 8 closest-to-the-pin prizes (4 for each group) highlighted by 78 year old Gerry Dembrowicz' first Hole-in-One. Gerry aced #4 Doe. We also had an eagle recorded by Dave Walos on #5 Doe.
Pat Gibbons and Ed Smolinski combined to shoot a net 62 to win the Senior top prize followed by Nick Offerman and Ray Heider who were one back at net 63. In the open division former Club Champ Brad Kern teamed with Pete Heuser to shoot a net 59 from the white tees to claim top prize. A match of cards determined 2nd place as Matt Clemmer and Brian Moore shot net 63. Steve Edel & Steve Sutherland also had net 63 but lost out of the money in the match of cards.
Suffice it to say everyone involved had a great time. Thanks to our Board members especially Tournament Chairman Paul Riexinger and Handicap Chairman Dave Walos who did the heavy lifting for us yesterday and all year. Special shout out to Emma & Ray who made sure our food was superb and our cups runneth over with much drink.
Thank you to all who participated, you're all winners in my book. If you couldn't make it this year, you missed the social event of the year and lots of fun and frivolity. Hope to see you all next year.

On a sad note, we lost long-time member Wally Hawthorn over the weekend. He was fighting several illnesses the past couple of years and was 77 years old. Wally served the club for many years on the board as our Handicap chairman and will be missed by all who knew him. Kaiser funeral home on Grand Island is in charge of visitation on Wednesday August 20 from 6-7 with a service at 8PM. RIP and now walking the big fairway in the sky, Wally!

Deerwood Men's Club Board of Directors for the 2025 Season:
The Deerwood Men's Club Board had our initial meeting for the 2025 season on Saturday, November 16th, at the Buffalo Pizza Project on Erie Ave. Our first order of business was to elect officers and assign duties for all 11 Board members.
President - Tom Gipp
Vice President - Eric Maundrell
Secretary - Keith Miranto
Treasurer - Frank Queeno
Tournament Chairman - Paul Riexinger
Handicap Chairman - Dave Walos
Rules & Greens - Bob Krolczyk
Entertainment Chairman - Mike Martin
Prize Chairman - Jim Mineweaser
Buffalo District Rep - Dennis Serafin
Webmaster - Darren Vitberg
In other news:
Emma Pfohl who's been managing the Buffalo Pizza Project has just received the keys to the 1818 Bar & Grill and will be part of a new management team at Deerwood. They'll be ready for business sometime before the course open in the spring. Until that time, the Board will be having their meetings at the Buffalo Pizza Project. Stop in for a pop or two every Saturday or anytime as they are very accommodating to us golfers. They even have a golf simulator installed in the previous dining room there. Check it out here: Golf Simulator Rentals – Buffalo Pizza Project.
At our meeting on November 16th, many new ideas were discussed and are in the works for the upcoming season including offering a Super Bowl Pool for all the gamblers in our ranks. The squares are $50 each and anyone in or outside of the Men's Club can participate in the pool. $10 of each square will go to the Men's Club to get us off to a good start for next year's expenses. Contact Keith Miranto at 716-531-0436 if you would like a square or two. There's up to 37 winning squares in the pool and numbers will change every quarter.
We will also post this to our Facebook page and our website.
We're looking into offering electronic payments.
And also in the works is a Hole-in-One pool proposed by Bob Krolczyk.
We're also working on a new online 2025 membership form to expedite the process of joining the club and to eliminate some of the minutia associated with the membership application.
I think you'll agree with me when I say the Golf Course is in its finest condition ever under the leadership of Superintendent Matt Borowiec and his fantastic crew. In that vein, we're looking forward to having all of our members back and we're working hard to attract new members as well.
If you add up all the benefits of your membership, I don't think you'll find a club in the area that gives back as much as we do and, many of the other club's entry fees are much higher than ours.
Start thinking of a friend you can bring in and join us for all the comradery and competitive golf.
Remember for every new member you bring in, you'll receive a $10 gift card.
